Restoration of the Old Baptist Cemetery

In 2024, 10 headstones were repaired and erected in the cemetery!
Erika Newcombe, with the vision of earning a Gold Award has passionately taken on the preservation of the Old Baptist Cemetery. This is an historical cemetery in Macedon, New York, with Revolutionary War soldiers, Winston Churchill's Great-Great Grandparents, a relative of the Salem Witch Trials: Putnam, War of 1812 soldiers, the first pioneer of Macedon, Webb Harwood, Aaron and Betsey Brister, and many more eminent people buried there. Over 100 people were buried here. Erika and her mom, Dee Newcombe have combed through many websites doing research on the people.

The Old Baptist Cemetery is landlocked! The land bordering the cemetery is privately owned.
Please contact the Macedon Town Hall prior to visiting the cemetery.

With the information they gathered, Erika & Dee were able to order military headstones for a few of our veterans through the Department of Veteran Affairs. One headstone application was approved, and that headstone is currently at the Macedon Highway Dept. waiting for Spring weather to set the headstone in place. The second application was denied because the veteran has a personal headstone already therefore did not meet the criteria for a military headstone from the VA. The last headstone application, Revolutionary War veteran (Aaron Brister 1762-1821) was in fact buried at the Old Baptist cemetery as his application is pending until find documentation. His wife is buried there and with a lot of help, her large broken headstone was fixed and set it upright. More records of Revolutionary War veterans that are buried at the Old Baptist cemetery have been found, they do not have any headstones. More applications for military headstones are being worked on, including Webb Harwood, the first settler in Macedon. Webb's wife's headstone is currently at the Macedon Academy waiting to be repaired by Dave Bloom.
